Robert Street Improvement Project

West Saint Paul, Minnesota

When the City of West Saint Paul was awarded a federal grant to improve a 2.5-mile stretch of the Robert Street Corridor from Mendota Road to Annapolis Street, City leadership realized that this was an opportunity to create a legacy project to be used by residents for years to come. Working extensively through public open houses and regular meetings with a citizen advisory committee the project team crafted a palette of materials for the corridor that is distinctive and durable. Further collaboration with stakeholders lead to an overall streetscape plan that improves the pedestrian environment, complements adjacent development, and is unique to South Saint Paul. Elements of the plan include decorative LED lighting, landscaped medians, enhanced pedestrian/transit nodes and distinctive gateway elements at either end of the corridor.

Design was completed in early 2014 with construction starting spring of 2015.
