TRANSPO Comprehensive Operations Analysis

South Bend, Indiana

SRF worked with the South Bend Public Transportation Corporation (TRANSPO) to conduct a comprehensive operations analysis of the 21-route bus system serving the South Bend-Mishawaka area.

The scope of the analysis included:

  • Assessment of existing transit service performance
  • Examination of community characteristics that drive demand for transit service
  • Development of options for improving the bus system
  • Extensive public involvement (including surveys, stakeholder interviews and focus groups, and open houses)

SRF also developed a complete geospatial inventory of the TRANSPO system and created a comprehensive geodatabase containing various bus route, stop, terminal, and ridership data. The spatial data was used along with a cost model to illustrate potential impacts of bus service changes Finally, SRF developed a series of maps to communicate system characteristics and recommended changes to various stakeholders and the public.
