Consistent with Minnesota’s Strategic Highway Safety Plan and Toward Zero Death initiatives, MnDOT initiated the Statewide County Road Safety Plans. In partnership with CH2MHill and PE Services, SRF developed County Road Safety Plans for all 87 counties. The team identified high priority safety projects and developed effective low-cost safety strategies to reduce fatal and serious injury crashes on Minnesota roadways. The project consisted of four phases and resulted in a customized County Road Safety Plan for each county, with a prioritized list of safety projects that the counties can use to obtain funding.
In Minnesota, many fatalities occur in rural areas where high vehicle speeds are coupled with rural roadway design results.
