Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board Park Asset Inventory/Assessment

Minneapolis, Minnesota

The Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board (MPRB) needed a GIS inventory of all paved surfaces within their owned and operated parks. The goal of the inventory was to facilitate their pavement repair project prioritization. The MPRB park system is composed of approximately 150 parks consisting of over 1,000 acres.

SRF completed the following tasks:

  • Digitized paved surfaces including sidewalks, paths, parking lots, and patios for 136 parks in the MPRB system.
  • Related park assets to their operational service areas and nearby Capital Improvement Program projects.
  • Evaluated park assets distance to schools.
  • Estimated paved surface repair costs.
  • Shared project maps in ArcGIS Online and delivered a geodatabase of park pavement assets and cost estimates.

Initial field work was completed by Braun Intertec to identify pavement types and geographic extent. With the work complete, MPRB has for the first time a complete inventory of their paved surfaces and a means for prioritizing maintenance projects.
