Mankato/North Mankato Long-Range Transportation Plan

Mankato/North-Mankato, Minnesota

SRF was retained by the Mankato Area Planning Organization (MAPO) to develop their first Transportation Plan as a new MPO. The planning process, which is nearing completion, addresses a number of critical issues, while reflecting local values and visions. However, the bi-county nature of the metro area, as well as its size, offers special challenges, including coordinating with MnDOT, two counties, four urban jurisdictions, five townships, and various special-purpose governments. In that respect, SRF developed an approach that brings together these jurisdictions in a meaningful and engaging manner. Our approach fostered a collaborative process with MAPO staff and it’s partners in developing a Plan that achieves the following:

  • Improves the multimodal transportation circulation of people and goods, using both motorized and non-motorized transportation modes and facilities
  • Provides safe, efficient, accessible, cost effective, and aesthetically pleasing transportation systems
  • Addresses system preservation needs and provides a fiscally constrained approach to new projects
  • Complies with federal MAP-21 requirements and MnDOT initiatives
