SRF was selected by the Duluth Transit Authority to provide permanent signal, signal revision, and pedestrian ramp design services for three intersections:
The signal design work was part of a larger project to convert two one-way streets to two-way traffic for the new Duluth Transit Authority multimodal facility. The signal design included unique TSP controller phasing for transit vehicles. New ADA-compliant pedestrian ramps with APS push-buttons were designed for the 3rd Street West and Michigan Street intersection. The 3rd Street West and Superior Street signal system was revised to have flashing yellow arrow (FYA) indications for all left-turn movements and features five-section doghouse displays and transit vehicle detection for TSP phasing. This required replacing multiple signal heads and mast arms and the addition of video detection, emergency vehicle pre-emption (EVP), and a new controller and cabinet. The 2nd Street West and Superior Street signal system was revised to have video detection, emergency vehicle pre-emption, and a new controller and cabinet. Construction of the new 3rd Street West and Michigan Street signal system has also been completed.
