Mankato Transit Facility

Mankato, Minnesota

LSA Design, prior to joining SRF, provided the City of Mankato with preliminary design and programming services for the Mankato Bus Garage. We  provided grant management assistance and graphic support for the FTA State of Good Repair Grant in 2011, of which the City was awarded $1.5 million in federal funds. LSA Design was responsible for writing and managing all environmental approval documents of the site. We also worked with the private transit agency Land to Air to transfer their operations to the new Mankato facility.

After completion of the preliminary design and programming phase, we became the City of Mankato’s owner’s representative through the construction of the new transit facility. Our owner’s representative services included meeting all FTA requirements for a federally funded project; drafting the RFP for architecture, engineering, and construction services; evaluating and recommending the selection of firms; and providing construction administration support.

Our services included:

  • Preliminary design and programming
  • Grant application assistance
  • Owner’s representation
  • Environmental documentation
  • Federal funding compliance
  • Construction management

Oertel Architects was awarded the A/E design services for the $8 million transit facility. The  facility includes storage for 40 vehicles, a maintenance area, and a separate vehicle wash building.
