In support of the Minnesota Twins’ development of Target Field, SRF partnered with Hennepin County and coordinating agencies to complete a comprehensive Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) for the new 42,000-seat open-air stadium in downtown Minneapolis.
Comprehensive Environmental Review
The EIS evaluated both the Build and No-Build Alternatives, analyzing a full range of potential social, environmental, and economic impacts associated with the new ballpark. SRF led detailed assessments in accordance with state and federal environmental review requirements.
Areas of focus included:
- Transportation & Traffic: Evaluation of roadway, freeway, parking, and transit impacts; integration with local and regional transportation networks; and freight and pedestrian movement.
- Environmental Quality: Assessment of noise and air quality impacts during both construction and ongoing operations.
- Land Use & Visual Character: Consideration of how the stadium would influence existing land use regulations, skyline views, and surrounding urban development.
- Cultural & Natural Resources: Analysis of potential impacts on cultural resources, contaminated sites, parks, recreation areas, trails, and surface water systems.
- Utilities & Infrastructure: Review of utility service needs and infrastructure adjustments to support stadium operations.
- Operational & Construction Impacts: SRF examined how ongoing ballpark activity would affect the surrounding area, along with construction-related and cumulative impacts over time.
This comprehensive EIS enabled Target Field to move forward with federal and state approvals, clearing the way for the successful construction of the stadium.
