Three Rivers Park District French Regional Park Creative Play Area – Plymouth, MN

SRF worked closely with Three Rivers Park District staff and a diverse group of stakeholders, including a fourth-grade class from a local elementary school, to develop a new destination play area within this extremely popular regional park.

The selected site, adjacent to the visitor center and parking area, provided unique design opportunities to use grade changes for inclusive play. Elevated ramps and walls guide users to the upper levels of the play structure, while a berm with decorative rubber safety surfacing offers access to the ramp system from the lower level and a seamless connection between upper-level elements.

Key features include:

  • A three-level tower with slides and climbing elements
  • Extensive climbing nets
  • Multi-user swings
  • A sand and water play node
  • Mist towers
  • A dedicated playhouse for children ages 2–5

The surrounding site includes generous patio spaces, shade structures, seating areas, and lush landscaping. All circulation routes meet ADA standards, ensuring accessibility for users of all abilities.

The play area has become a highly visited destination within French Regional Park.
