As the City of Inver Grove Heights planned the development of its new Fire Station No. 2, it became clear that extending essential utilities, including sanitary sewer, watermain, and fiber optic infrastructure, was necessary to support the facility and surrounding area. SRF was selected to assist the City with both the design and construction oversight of these critical extensions.
The project posed several challenges typical of complex urban utility work:
- A fast-track project schedule required accelerated design, permitting, and construction timelines.
- Feasibility studies and public engagement efforts were conducted early to assess impacts and gather input from affected stakeholders.
- Portions of the utilities needed to cross private property, requiring close coordination and communication with property owners.
- The alignment required trenchless boring beneath Highway 52/55, which demanded advanced technical planning and coordination with MnDOT and other agencies.
- The utility project occurred concurrently with several adjacent construction efforts, requiring close coordination to avoid conflicts and delays.
- Post-construction monitoring ensured that project outcomes met performance expectations and addressed any community concerns.
SRF supported the City throughout each phase, from preliminary feasibility to final construction and followup, helping ensure the new fire station was equipped with resilient, future-ready infrastructure.
