SRF collaborated with the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) to update its Connected Automated Vehicle (CAV) training program. Drawing on extensive CAV experience, SRF expanded FDOT’s original training materials, which were first developed in 2019 and had become outdated.
FDOT released the Connected Vehicles (CV) Lessons Learned and Best Practices document in 2025, and SRF was subsequently tasked with developing training modules based on its content. These narrated modules are available on FDOT’s website and are designed for asynchronous learning.
The training modules cover the following topics:
- Planning
- Design
- Materials Procurement
- Construction
- Operations and Maintenance
Each module concludes with a brief quiz for participants. The full training program takes approximately three hours to complete.
Because the CV Lessons Learned and Best Practices document is intended for a broad audience, a key challenge in developing the modules was balancing technical depth with accessibility. The content needed to provide sufficient detail for subject matter experts while remaining clear and valuable for less technical audiences. To address this, the modules were carefully structured to deliver the appropriate level of detail alongside necessary context.
