The Tettegouche State Park Visitor Center and Rest Area serves as a welcoming gateway to one of Minnesota’s most iconic parks along the north shore of Lake Superior. Working in partnership with the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (MnDNR) and Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT), SRF helped reimagine the park’s primary entrance and visitor experience.
A new lodge-style facility offers panoramic views of Lake Superior, while adjacent patios and walkways guide visitors toward a trailhead system connecting to Shovel Point and the Baptism River shoreline.
Site Integration and Sustainability
SRF designed surrounding parking areas and circulation paths to fit the natural topography and reduce environmental impact. Site grading and stormwater runoff are carefully managed through retention and treatment systems that protect sensitive drainage ways. Native plantings and seed mixes are incorporated throughout the site to enhance visual interest year-round and support habitat restoration.
