IDOT D1 Phase II Traffic Design Project Management Services

SRF has provided Phase II Traffic Design Project Management Services to Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT)’s District 1 for several years, supporting task orders under three Professional Transportation Bulletins (PTBs).

Our staff works as in-house consultants to IDOT, performing design and peer reviews. The task order contract encompasses submittal reviews, record drawing updates, and plan development for traffic signal and intelligent transportation system (ITS) projects. Submittal reviews include:

  • Evaluation of plans from various bureaus and sections
  • Review of catalog cuts
  • Intersection design studies (IDS)
  • Sign panel designs
  • Transportation management plans (TMPs)
  • Traffic control
  • Detour plans
  • Permit-related submittals that affect traffic signals

SRF oversees Phase II design tasks including:

  • Topographic survey
  • Phase I report updates
  • Environmental survey request (ESR) documentation
  • Traffic signal designs

Plan development efforts cover:

  • Detector loops improvements
  • Pedestrian equipment upgrades
  • Temporary signals
  • Signal modernization
  • EMC contract designs
  • Traffic signal relocations
  • Construction revisions
  • Interconnect plans

In addition to these responsibilities, SRF has supported IDOT in reviewing smart corridor projects, developing updated signal design guidelines, tracking accessible pedestrian signal (APS) installations, and creating standard specifications for APS. SRF works hand in hand with IDOT’s Traffic Signal Design group to coordinate across bureaus and districts.
