Mark Berndt

Mark Berndt has more than 40 of professional experience in multimodal freight transportation planning. Following a 20-year career with the State of Minnesota, where he worked at several agencies including MnDOT, he entered consulting. Throughout his 15 years at MnDOT, Mark held several positions, including Freight Section Planning Director. For the last 20+years, he has worked as a freight and supply chain consultant helping public agencies and private businesses across the US. Mark’s work has included managing federal freight transportation research, statewide and regional freight planning efforts, and project-specific freight feasibility studies throughout the nation.

Mark is the past chairman of the Transportation Research Board’s (TRB) Agriculture and Food Transportation Committee at the National Academy of Sciences. He is currently a member of the TRB Rural Coordinating Council, and a past member of numerous TRB freight committees. Mark received the William K. Smith Distinguished Service Award from the Center for Transportation Studies at the University of Minnesota, which recognizes his leadership and contributions to the education of future leaders in freight transportation and logistics.
