Midtown Greenway Named Great Urban Place

Recipient of the 2014 “Great Urban Place” award from the Sensible Land Use Coalition

The Sensible Land Use Coalition’s award honors great public places in the seven-county metropolitan area that promote economic development while welcoming, inspiring, and engaging visitors. SRF has been a long-term partner in the development of the Midtown Greenway, working with the Hennepin County Regional Rail Authority, City of Minneapolis, and the Midtown Greenway Coalition to provide planning, design, and engineering services.

Since its days as a forgotten railroad corridor, the Midtown Greenway has been transformed into a community asset. Serving as bike trail, commuter route, community garden, transit connection, and more – it has become a place to live, work and thrive. Similar to New York’s acclaimed High Line, the Greenway has spurred tremendous economic development along the corridor.

Today, the Midtown Greenway provides year round opportunities to enjoy one of the true great places in the Twin Cities. Thousands of people use the Greenway each spring, summer, or fall day, and hundreds of hearty cyclists and runners brave the cold each winter day. The Greenway is a significant contributor to the great quality of life in the Twin Cities, and continues to establish Minneapolis as one of the top cities for biking in the country. SRF is proud of efforts to support the City of Minneapolis and Hennepin County is developing this valuable community amenity.
