Minnesota’s newest campground in more than 25 years is officially open! SRF worked with the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR) on the planning and development of the new campground in Lake Vermilion-Soudan Underground Mine State Park. The initial planning efforts for the 3,000-acre park included developing a north and south campground, camper cabin accommodations, an adventure play area, water access, and approximately five miles of natural surface hiking trails.
Reflecting on this project milestone SRF’s Principal Ken Grieshaber said, “This project presented a once in a life time opportunity to design and implement a new state park facility within a unique and challenging Minnesota landscape. Through a collaborative process engaging a wide variety of DNR stakeholders, SRF disciplines, and sub-consultants, a new state of the art camping and recreation experience has been created and is ready for the general public to come and explore.”
