CSAH 61 (Shady Oak Road) Reconstruction

Eden Prairie, Minnesota

The construction of United Health Group’s office complex along Shady Oak Road required an increase in capacity of the surrounding roads. The City of Eden Prairie selected SRF to provide design and construction management services for the reconstruction of Shady Oak Road along with local cross streets and MnDOT ramps. The project was successfully completed within a shortened timeframe to accommodate and meet the development schedule of one of the state’s largest companies.

During construction SRF provided contract administration, construction inspection, and staking to support the City’s efforts in reconstructing a mile of city, county, and MnDOT roads in Eden Prairie and Minnetonka. Using state aid funding, the project required accurate quantity documentation, as well as detailed materials control and construction observation. Project challenges included staged construction in a high volume traffic area, maintaining access to businesses, limited construction working areas, coordinating the relocation of private utilities, and coordinating the replacement of existing utilities to minimally impact customers. Additionally, SRF provided weekly progress updates for the project website, monitored a project email site and phone number hotline, and periodically meet with local businesses and residents regarding project progress and to address their concerns. Specific elements of the project included:

  • Grading
  • Concrete and bituminous paving
  • Storm sewer, sanitary sewer, and watermain installation
  • Concrete curb and gutter
  • Traffic signal systems
  • Lighting
  • MNDOT TMS system
  • Landscaping
  • Retaining walls
  • Ponds and infiltration basin
  • ADA improvements
  • Roundabout construction
