Hwy 33/I-35 Roundabout Recognized at Bentley Infrastructure Conference

One of SRF’s core values is innovation, and now the world is going to know about it!  SRF’s Hwy 33/I-35 Roundabout project in Cloquet, Minnesota, was recently recognized at Bentley’s Year in Infrastructure 2018 Conference. This conference is a global gathering of leading executives in the world of infrastructure design, construction, and operations.  The annual awards program honors the extraordinary work of Bentley users. Twelve independent jury panels of distinguished industry experts selected the projects from 420 nominations submitted by more than 340 organizations around the world.

Chris Trboyevich, SRF’s Project Manager, stated “I’d like to congratulate everyone on the team who helped make this project a success.  We completed the design of the roundabout from conceptual level to final construction documents in less than five months, a very aggressive schedule given the project type.”  The project included preliminary and final design, public involvement, wetland permitting, and construction support.

A key deliverable was a traffic visualization of the proposed traffic conditions of the roundabout, with the ability to view the project from any perspective and location within the project limits. Chris added, “The RFP set specific tasks that on the surface appeared independent, but the team consolidated those specific deliverables, which included corridor design models, VISSIM traffic, and oversize/overweight (OSOW) traffic simulations into a visualization that complemented information presented at the public involvement meeting. We successfully demonstrate how our produced data can be used in subsequent project actions, basically from concept design through construction (i.e., the BIM lifecycle). This project exemplifies how SRF is thinking on a grander scale to provide additional value to our clients by realizing process efficiencies.”

Bentley’s Year in Infrastructure 2018 Conference was held in London, England from October 15-18.  SRF’s  Hwy 33/I-35 Roundabout project will be featured in the annual Infrastructure Yearbook to be distributed worldwide.
