We are seeking an intern to join our Minnesota Traffic & Technology Division in our Minneapolis, MN office. This division is responsible for conducting corridor studies, sub-area studies, traffic impact studies, freeway modeling, corridor signal timing, traffic forecasting, traffic safety and other specialized traffic analysis work. This division is also responsible for the planning, design, implementation, and evaluation of transportation technology systems.

The chosen candidate will work up to 40 hours per week during the summer. We also desire the intern to work part-time hours during the school semester if practical. Please note the internship will require working onsite at either the Minneapolis or St. Paul office. Looking forward to the future? This position has the potential for full-time employment upon graduation from the respective accredited Civil Engineering program or closely related field.

Highlighted Responsibilities

  • Collecting, organizing, and analyzing large and diverse sets of traffic data
  • Conducting technical analysis using traffic simulation and modeling programs
  • Developing documentation and presentation materials to support analysis work
  • Preparation of CAD drawings to support of design of traffic signals, signing and pavement markings, and transportation technology systems (i.e., ITS, CAV, and Electrical Engineering)

This position provides a great opportunity to be familiar with industry standard traffic engineering practice and expand your coursework knowledge to real life projects. You will be paired with one/more senior members to assist in different projects which not only will help you to develop your technical skills but also to build internal connections and network.

Requirements

  • Current enrollment in a civil engineering program or closely related field
  • Excellent verbal/written communication skills
  • Students with 1-3 semesters remaining to complete their engineering degree are desired/preferred
