SRF is seeking a motivated, action-oriented communicator and engager to join our Public Engagement Team in Minneapolis.  Our growing team works with a diverse range of communities and stakeholders on projects across the Midwest. Our Public Engagement Team works closely with our Planning, Engineering, Landscape Architecture and other functional groups at SRF to facilitate public engagement efforts. This position plays an important role in informing, involving and connecting with communities. As an engagement specialist, you will work to build awareness and ensure community members have equitable opportunities to participate in the public process.

A successful candidate will have a passion for engaging a wide range of residents, drafting plain language content and assisting in the development of visually appealing graphics and project materials. As a Public Engagement Specialist, you will collaborate with the Public Engagement Team and a diverse group of planners, engineers, and designers to create and execute engagement plans that are tailored to the communities that we are working in. You will contribute to a variety of engagement and communication tasks including developing engagement strategies and engagement plans, prepare for and promote engagement activities, facilitate engagement events, summarize input and activities, and assist the technical team in using input to inform project activities and outcomes. You will also assist the team in executing communications tools and messaging that connects to a broad audience – including digital, and print. This role will involve interaction with diverse groups and will include city, county, and state meetings. Travel and overnight stays throughout the region may be required for project work.

Responsibilities:

  • Developing engagement and communication strategies that are tailored to specific project and are accessible to all community members.
  • Creating engagement event materials and promotional strategies including press releases, social media advertisements, in the field advertisements, presentation materials, and project materials.
  • Assisting with the facilitation of engagement events.
  • Collecting, analyzing, and summarizing input in a manner that allows the public to understand how their input is used and is transferable to technical team members to inform project results.
  • Creating and facilitating in person and digital engagement tools that provide project information and gather input.

Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of public engagement principles and practices
  • Desire to create inclusive and meaningful community engagement
  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Affairs, Public Relations, Marketing, Planning or closely related field
  • 2 years of public engagement and/or community communications-related experience is a plus.
  • Strong written, verbal, and graphic communication skills
  • Collaborative and enthusiastic attitude
  • Good analytical and critical thinking skills
  • Good organizational skills with attention to detail
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Experience with the Adobe Creative Suite is a plus
  • Ability to work well both independently and as part of a team
