Maple Grove Southwest Area Residential Development

Maple Grove, Minnesota

North of Bass Lake Road, between Lawndale Lane and County Road 101, 13 residential developments were constructed over a period of five years. Following preparation of the construction plans for streets and utilities in the area, SRF also provided construction staking, construction observation services and contract administration for the individual developments—several of which were under construction simultaneously by multiple contractors.
Highlights of this project include:

  • Total of 720 residential lots
  • Combined construction value of $15 million
  • Total developed area of 245 acres
  • 25 miles of storm sewer, sanitary sewer and water main
  • Multiple connections of lateral sanitary sewers to MCES Trunk Sanitary Interceptor

Nottingham Parkway

Maple Grove, Minnesota

Nottingham Parkway is an important link in the City of Maple Grove’s Transportation Plan, providing a connection through a new residential neighborhood between Lawndale Lane and CSAH 10, and runs along a segment of Elm Creek. The Parkway meanders through a floodplain of varying width and straddles the floodplain/floodway boundary at the base of a steep, heavily wooded hillside. It then crosses the creek at the north end near the connection to Dunkirk Lane. SRF provided environmental permitting services; topographic surveying; roadway, bridge and utility design; and in-construction staking, construction administration and observation for this State Aid project.
SRF’s construction observation, survey and administration staff were able to assist the City of Maple Grove with the following project-enhancing services:

  • Grading and embankment fill operations, including removal and replacement of poor roadway foundation soils
  • Minimization of impacts to adjacent wetlands
  • Avoidance / minimization of impact on the Elm Creek Floodplain and Floodway
  • Elm Creek realignment and wetland creation
  • Stream bank protection and restoration
  • Water main crossing Elm Creek
  • Protection of the existing natural environment within the City’s tree preservation area
  • Stormwater treatment and drainage
  • Intersection operation improvements

Heritage Park Redevelopment

Minneapolis, Minnesota

SRF worked with the City of Minneapolis to provide construction administration services for public realm elements (streets, utilities, parks, trails, stormwater management, lighting, ornamental headwalls, native plantings, and public art) of the large-scale Heritage Park Redevelopment project. SRF attended weekly construction meetings and provided construction staking and surveying, construction observation, and ongoing field engineering services.

SRF construction field staff maintained a close working relationship with geotechnical engineers and environmental scientists due to the prevalence of poor soil conditions and contaminated soils. They also worked closely with public artists as public art elements were designed into infrastructure elements throughout the project area, and ensured that innovative, custom-designed stormwater treatment elements were constructed to meet the design intent.
Construction administration services provided by SRF include:

  • Construction meetings
  • Submittal review
  • Construction staking and surveying
  • Construction observation
  • Coordination of ongoing field engineering services
  • Processing of contractor payment requests
  • Preparation and submittal of federal funding documentation
