Barry Warner Receives APA Lifetime Achievement Award

In recognition of his many contributions to the planning profession over the course of his 40-year career, the Minnesota Chapter of the American Planning Association recently presented Barry Warner, FASLA, AICP, with the APA Minnesota Lifetime Achievement Award. This award celebrates Barry’s dedication to the field of planning as well as his commitment to innovation, creativity, education, and community service.

A graduate of the University of Minnesota Wright-Ingraham Institute and a Fellow in the American Society of Landscape Architects, Barry served in various leadership roles throughout his 22-year tenure at SRF. For nearly two decades, Barry led SRF’s Urban Design and Landscape Architecture Group. Most recently, Barry led SRF’s business development and strategic planning efforts, serving on our Board of Directors and Executive Committee.

Recognized by his peers for his outstanding creativity and talent for facilitating meaningful public involvement, Barry worked on scores of award-winning and noteworthy projects throughout his career. Barry’s work reflected his lifetime commitment to delivering distinctive spaces and facilities that truly honored each community’s unique values.

“We, as planners, are held to the highest level of ethics and professional credibility, frequently without public recognition,” stated Barry in his acceptance speech. “I have had the honor and the privilege to assist many communities, counties, and affiliated agencies with diverse planning projects that have provided me with the personal satisfaction of contributing toward neighborhood livability and environmental sensitivity.”

Barry’s work reflected his lifetime commitment to delivering distinctive spaces and facilities that truly honored each community’s unique values.

While Barry recently transitioned into retirement, he continues to mentor SRF leaders and provide guidance on key initiatives. In addition to having more time to enjoy the many community amenities he helped plan and design, Barry has been traveling the world and pursuing several hobbies.
